“For God is the king of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne.” Psalm 47:7-8

Because the Lord is King…

Yesterday was Queen Elizabeth II’s 94th birthday. Maybe only something like 20% of the UK population were alive for her coronation in 1953. She seems like she has been around forever, and for many is a calming presence. I certainly appreciated her recent address to the nation, and her Easter message.

But, as she herself gladly acknowledges, there is a King above her, one whose throne will truly last forever, and who for Christians is the ultimate assurance and calming presence.

Colin Buchanan (no relation) is an Australian Christian songwriter, who writes a lot of songs for children. As a family, we enjoy his music, and I know others in the church do too. I want to share a great song he’s written – which he explains and sings here:

You might have seen bad things happening,

On the TV news.

You might be worrying about the world,

And wonder what’ll happen to you.

But put your trust in God alone,

Cos he’s still sitting on his mighty throne.

The Lord is King,

He’s gonna look after everything,

Every single thing, in this world.

Cos this is his world.

Ramadan: Pray for Muslims

As many of you will know, Ramadan is the month of fasting for Muslims, where they fast in daylight hours. This year, it begins on Thursday evening, and lasts 30 days. Many Christians and organisations take this as an opportunity and encouragement to pray for the Muslim world. You may have Muslims you know, or missionaries you could particularly bring to the throne in prayer over these 30 days. Here’s a brief article from Arab World Ministries -

IPC Resilience Webinar – Wednesday 29th April

Immanuel Church, Brentford, will be offering a short, practical webinar to the IPC church family entitled “Resilience and Relationships in Tough Times”. The congregation at Immanuel has benefited from this already and so want to share it with other churches too.

This will take place on Zoom on Wednesday 29th April from 8:00pm to 9:30pm.

It will be led by Mark Snelling, who is a member of Immanuel Church and a psychotherapist and trauma counsellor in private practice in London. He has extensive experience of working in crisis situations around the world, including during the Ebola virus outbreak a few years ago.

Mark will give a one-hour presentation looking at definitions of resilience in the context of the coronavirus lockdown along with its spiritual, physical, mental and emotional impact. He will then explore practical skills and coping strategies, with a particular focus on relational resources.

After the presentation, there will be time for questions and answers.

Places are limited, so if you are interested, please sign up at and you’ll be sent the link for you to log in on the day. (This webinar will also be recorded for further distribution).
